Small village, plenty of leaves
Winfield is a small village of just under ten thousand people, best known as the home of Northwestern Medicine Central DuPage Hospital. It has a Metra stop on the Union Pacific West Line, and the West Branch of the DuPage River winds through town. Between the trees along the river and the shade trees on its residential streets, there are plenty of leaves to deal with each fall.
We start by blowing leaves out of beds, from under shrubs and along fences, then vacuum the piles into the covered box on our truck. Nothing gets left at the curb for you to deal with. A thick mat of wet leaves blocks light and air from the grass, and by spring it can leave dead patches, mold and pests behind. Clearing it now gives the lawn a better start.
In the growing season, our crews mow weekly at the right height for deep roots and fewer weeds, then trim around fences, edges and the tight spots a mower cannot reach. Clippings are managed to keep thatch down, and regular visits help us spot pest or disease problems early. We also edge, aerate, fertilize, plant, clean gutters and clear snow.

Wet leaves mat down quickly in low, shady parts of a yard. They are worth clearing before the first hard freeze so the grass underneath can breathe.

Leaves trapped under shrubs and in beds are easy to miss. We clear them out, cut back perennials and add protective mulch where plants need it for winter.
