Fall cleanup in the City of Energy
Batavia was once known as the Windmill City, after the windmill factories that operated in town. When Fermilab opened just outside Batavia, the city took on a new nickname, the City of Energy. A collection of restored windmills still stands on the Riverwalk downtown. Neighborhoods climb away from both banks of the Fox River, and their trees fill yards with leaves each fall.
We clear lawns, beds and fence corners with blowers and rakes, then vacuum the leaves into the covered box on our truck and haul them off. Getting leaves off the grass matters: left over winter, they smother it, hold moisture and invite mold and pests.
